About FIRST:     FIRST is a non-profit organization For the Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. It was founded by inventor Dean Kamen in 1989. He is famous for inventing the SEGWAY Human Transporter, a two-wheeled, self-balancing scooter that moves when the rider leans forward or backward.     FIRST's mission is NOT to create a league of competitive robotics teams. Rather, they want to transform culture from one that is obsessed with the celebrity status of movie, music, and sports stars; to one that looks up to engineers, scientists, and all those people that provide us with today's standard of living, just as much and if not more than today's celebrities.     Since its birth, FIRST has grown to international proportions. Teams can be found not only here, but Canada, Brazil, and Israel. However, even as more teams come into play and the competitions get more and more fierce, FIRST has never forgotten its root principles of 'Gracious Professionalism' and 'Coopertition.'
